Intro to Zinc Etching
September 9 - October 28 (8 weeks)
$250 (+ MPA membership*)
Zinc plates are etched rapidly in a bath of Copper Sulphate and water producing crisp lines. Zinc can be etched deeply for viscosity printing and blind embossing effects and can yield interesting textural results not possible with copper etching. Come learn these basic techniques of etching on zinc plate. No prior etching experience required.
This CMYK effort takes advantage of a smoke filtered sunset along the Bitterroot River in Montana in 2003.
'He Made His Mark', Peter Graham, screen print on paper, 6" x 10", 2015.
This is my first attempt to create a CMYK screen print. CMYK is a subtractive colour model that relies on the visual mixing of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black pigments to create a wide range of colours. It is considered a “subtractive color model” because the higher percentage of cyan, magenta, and yellow inks pulled trough a screen onto a white sheet of paper, the less amount of light that will reflect through, ultimately creating black.
'Bathtime for Zombies', Peter Graham, etching on paper, 5" x 7", 2015.
This is a test to etch an aluminum plate. Aluminum's chief advantages are low cost, quick etch times and the ability to create areas of tone with timed open bites, thereby eliminating the need for aquatints.
